There’s a lot of talk and excitement around tokenisation, but has it meaningfully materialised in private markets?

Tokenised investment fund AUM is predicted to reach more than $317bn in 2028, according to PwC’s asset and wealth management survey, published last year. In 2023, tokenised AUM was $40bn. That represents CAGR of more than 50%.  

There’s a lot of talk and excitement around tokenisation, but has it meaningfully materialised in private markets? Are compelling use cases coming to the fore? What about the regulatory environment?
